E.ON has teamed up with Cambridge tech firm Superdielectrics to develop a home-grown battery that could cut energy bills by up to 85%. The new polymer-based tech, built around a membrane similar to contact lenses, promises a safer, cheaper and greener way to store power at home. It’s part of a wider push to help households take control of their energy use, cut carbon and tackle fuel poverty. Superdielectrics says early trials are promising.

Optimised has snapped up Control Energy Costs in a move to beef up its utility and carbon management offering across the UK. The deal brings together two energy service heavyweights, with a combined headcount of 170 and more than 700 clients on the books. CEC boss Phil Ager will head up the new-look Utility Management division, now over 70-strong, offering procurement, bureau services and cost recovery.

From today, Scottish households and small businesses on heat networks can access dedicated support through Advice Direct Scotland (ADS). This marks the first step towards wider regulation set for January 2026. ADS advisers will assist with billing, affordability and energy efficiency, while vulnerable consumers can be referred to Citizens Advice Scotland’s Extra Help Unit. Funded by Consumer Scotland, this initiative will also inform research to improve heat networks.
