    Lotus has revamped the line-up for its electric Eletre hyper-SUV and Emeya hyper-GT. The new model range starts from $189,900, available to order now at Lotus Auckland. Lotus says it offers customers more convenience, clarity, and tailored customisation when configuring their Eletre or Emeya, adding the 600 and 900 model names reflect their power output. At the same time equipment level references such as “GT SE” and “Sport” return, says the brand.

    The Nissan Formula E Team says it’s ready for the Shanghai International Circuit for Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on May 31 and June 1. Oliver Rowland intends extending his lead in the Drivers’ Standings in Shanghai, where he finished fourth during last year’s opener. In the #17 Nissan e-4ORCE 05, Norman Nato will be aiming to replicate his success from the maiden visit to Shanghai, which saw him take a podium during the second event.

    The new “Seated N4” Neuron e-scooter has been unveiled in Brisbane. More comfortable for longer rides, the Seated N4 is equipped with a padded seat and shortened handlebar stem for added comfort and ergonomics, and a lower centre of gravity, says Neuron. The first of up to 500 launched in the city from May 27 are expected to appeal to a wider range of demographics, including those with reduced mobility.

    BYD registered 7231 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Europe in April 2025, while Tesla registered 7165. So says automotive business intelligence firm JATO Dynamics which works across more than 50 countries and did the data for 28 European nations. “However, the standout performer of the month was arguably the Volkswagen Tiguan, in fourth position, with registrations up by 32% to 16,300 units,” the company says.

    The fire that destroyed a North Shore recycling facility (on Thursday April 24) is a stark reminder of what’s at stake when battery systems outpace regulation. So says the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association (VIA), adding lithium batteries may have contributed to the scale of destruction in the Wairau Valley blaze, prompting VIA to renew its call for national standards governing the reuse and recycling of EV batteries. Radio New Zealand (RNZ) reported on the fire shortly after.
