The Union Planning and Zoning Commission took no action on a McBride Homes condominium proposal at its April 28 meeting. The proposal now goes before the Board of Aldermen. Crescent Grove Subdivision, the new name of the proposed McBride development, is slated to have 248 condominium units on 70 lots off Rock Road, east of Highway 47, according to plans submitted to the city.

The Franklin County Highway Departartment announed that part of Old Highway 100 would close at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 9. After being deployed numerous times around the world and becoming an Army Ranger, a Franklin County native will return home to deliver remarks at Union’s Memorial Day ceremony on May 26. Capt. Nathan E. Schnittger grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 2005, entering military service as a fire support specialist that same year. Students in the Washington School District’s Soar into STEM program took flight Saturday at Washington Regional Airport. The 30-minute flight experiences were the culmination of the program, an interactive learning opportunity that introduces high school students to the many facets of the aviation industry through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and career exploration, said Washington School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart.

Union’s Founders Day festival will return Saturday without one of its popular past events. The city’s Park Advisory Board voted Thursday, May 1, to not hold a turtle race this year or at future Founders Day.
