Are machine learning models built on healthcare data reliable at predicting opioid use disorder? That’s what researchers from Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science wanted to explore. As such, they examined peer-reviewed journal papers and conducted one of the first systematic reviews analyzing not only the technical aspects of machine learning applied to predicting opioid use, but also the published results.

A growing body of evidence suggests extra virgin olive oil can help prevent cognitive decline due to Alzheimer's disease. In a new study, Yale School of Medicine researchers led by Natalie Neumann, MD, trained a machine learning algorithm on current experimental Alzheimer's drugs, then used it to identify the 10 phytochemicals in EVOO with the greatest chance of being active against Alzheimer's disease.

Monash University researchers have recently developed a co-training AI algorithm for medical imaging, aimed at emulating the process of seeking a second opinion. This advancement, published in Nature Machine Intelligence, addresses the scarcity of human annotated medical images by utilizing an innovative adversarial learning approach with unlabelled data. The research involved creating a "dual-view" AI system where two components compete in a unique manner.
