Central Catholic’s inside and outside game were on display Monday evening as the Eagles defeated Houma Christian 57-31 in Houma. The Eagles (2-5) connected on eight three-pointers and had three players in double figures. “It’s one of those things you kind of pick your poison,” Houma Christian coach Richard Jones said. “You either try to take away the outside or the inside, and they kind of had both going.

LSU sophomore cross country runner Ella Chesnut said late this summer her team’s goal was to make it to the NCAA XC Championships this season. While the group just missed qualifying for nationals at the NCAA South Central Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Chesnut, a Vandebilt Catholic alum, qualified individually.

The South Lafourche volleyball team that fell in five sets to Covenant Christian Academy in the regular season opener in August was a different squad than the one that met the Lions Monday in Schriever. The results were different, too. South Lafourche defeated Covenant Christian in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18 as both teams head into the final week of the regular season and prepare for the playoffs.

HOUMA — Vandebilt Catholic came out on fire and cruised past Ellender Memorial 48-0 for the Terrier’s homecoming victory Friday. The Terriers had a 20-0 lead with a little less than 6 minutes remaining in the first quarter and added three more touchdowns in the second period for a 41-0 halftime advantage. “I thought we were very opportunistic,” Vandebilt coach Tommy Minton said. “We did what we were capable of doing. In a battle between two of the top six teams in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III power rankings, rivals E.D. White Catholic and Vandebilt Catholic didn’t just meet on the court Monday in Houma. They battled in a marathon of a match. It took five sets to determine a winner, but ultimately E.D. White, ranked No. 3 in the latest power rankings, held off sixth-ranked Vandebilt Catholic by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 26-24, 19-25, 15-9.

Below is a look at how area college and professional athletes performed the past week: University of New Orleans Women’s Cross Country—Emma Bourg: The Houma Christian alum finished in 80th place at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Friday with a time of 21:42.8. Her time is the 29th best in school history for women’s cross country in the 6K and the fifth-best among freshmen. She is ranked ninth in school history on the 6K performance list.
