LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — In the U.S., an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 people drown annually. The major cause for drownings is lack of swimming ability. Dr. Scott Hamilton says the most vulnerable at risk of drowning are kids. “Infants and toddlers, little kids who don’t understand that water can be dangerous,” Hamilton said. “And it doesn’t take much water. A kiddy pool, a bathtub. Your shallow water. If those kids get face down, they could drown. So there’s a lot of things we do.

Braxton Meche, a freshman at Notre Dame High School is one of the many students participating in the Homeless to Housewarmed campaign. He says being part of this project creates an awareness that is an eye opener for him and his classmates. He says, “that we should be grateful for what we have for the time being, because something can happen, you know, taking away from us. The program recruits groups of volunteers to “adopt” a client of one of the three Catholic Charities homeless shelters and help them by gathering the necessities for making a home. Meche said being part of this project creates an awareness that is an eye opener for him and his classmates.

Nurse Practicioner, Kelly Crim says the advantage of this new clinic: it allows patients to come to one spot for their female care needs.
