A judge has remarked that it is “totally and utterly unacceptable” that a sentenced drugs offender is now being served food in HMP Maghaberry by his abusive father, who is serving a custodial sentence in the same prison for sexual assault against him. The disclosure was made at the Crown Court in Derry when Marc Villa (24), from Clon Elagh in the city, was jailed for 30 months for committing a series of Class A and Class B drugs offences between February and September 2022.

In his pre-sentence report prepared by a probation officer before he was sentenced today, Villa disclosed that he had been sexually abused by his father and that, based on his evidence, his dad, Stephen Harrigan, had been prosecuted and sentenced.

The gang members were identified and arrested by the various European police forces after the successful hacking of the Encrochat server during a joint international police probe.

Today at 07:52A drug addict who stole food from an Iceland store was caught with his mouth covered in chicken tikka masala after leaving his false teeth at the scene of the crime, Derry Magistrates Court has heard. A police officer told the court that Barry Crossan (48) — who has 129 previous criminal convictions — was arrested for theft last Sunday. The defendant, from Creggan Heights, was charged with stealing £596 of clothing from Frasers in the Foyleside Shopping Centre on March 16.
