Millions of savers with small sums in Premium Bonds are waiting an average of three and a half years for their first prize — and missing out on higher returns elsewhere. The prize fund lottery, run by the Treasury-owned bank National Savings & Investments (NS&I), pays out tax-free prizes of between £25 and £1 million every month. It is Britain’s most popular savings account, with £131.4 billion deposited by about 22.5 million savers.
