Macomb County discus throwers left a mark at the state finals. Junior Cameron Gramzow of Anchor Bay, Dominic Weatherly of L’Anse Creuse and DeWayne Williams III of De La Salle made all-state by finishing in the top eight at the Division 1 championship meet at cool and cloudy East Kentwood on Saturday. Gramzow finished fifth after throwing 170 feet, 7 inches. Weatherly was sixth at 168-4 and Williams eighth at 163-3.

AvaLee Pomper broke open what had been a close game at halftime to help Memphis extend its soccer season. The junior scored three of her four goals in the second half as the Yellowjackets won a second consecutive district championship with a 5-0 victory over Austin Catholic in a Division 4 final at cloudy and sometimes-rainy Memphis on Friday. “I can’t believe we went all this way,” Pomper said. “I’m so proud of everyone here.

Jenna Moeller has graduated from high school, not soccer. Moeller had three goals and an assist Tuesday night to help Regina extend its season with a 5-1 victory over Lutheran North in a Division 3 district semifinal match at Notre Dame Prep. Regina had graduation last week, and Moeller joined her mother and an aunt as family members who’ve earned diplomas from the Catholic League school. But Moeller has at least one more match to play in a Saddlelites uniform.

Anchor Bay crowned a champion competing with other Macomb County boys’ track & field teams at the Meet of Champions last Wednesday. The meet, held at Fraser High School for the first time, saw Cameron Gramzow claim the discus title with a toss of 158 feet, 7 inches. The Tars finished 6th in the team scoring with 40 points while L’Anse Creuse North was 15th with 20 points.
