Dear Editor:Who among us would be surprised that the MAGA contingent of the Park County Board of Commissioners has publicly tarried for over six months in their search for a new county manager while, since the beginning of this odyssey, they’ve known precisely who they will choose to fill the slot? The latest pithy remark about this came from outgoing (term-limited) Commissioner Dick Elsner. Reflecting on the Dec. 19 decision to reinterview the top three finalists for the position.

Dear Editor:Predictably, Amy Mitchell and Jason Gemmer won the District 1 and District 2 Commissioner seats. Not predictably, Park County citizens approved Amendments J and 79, which amended the Colorado Constitution to remove the same-sex marriage ban and protect abortion rights. The Evangelical base of the Park County MAGA (formerly Republican) Party certainly wished those amendments would have failed. They didn’t. Not all of Park County’s conservatives see through a Biblical worldview lens.

He then warns that anyone who purports to write Republican Perspectives in the Flume is not a Republican unless his Central Committee says so. There is no need to recapitulate what Wissel wrote.

Dear Editor,When the Park County Republican Central Committee’s favorite son, Jason Gemmer, declared at Burro Days a few weeks ago that he was running for the Dist. 2 Commissioner seat because he wants “…to keep this county red,” I wondered if the honchos on the Central Committee might take Gemmer aside and advise him on the advantages of not espousing gut-felt MAGA dogmatism rather than specious niceties more palatable to a larger audience.

Greg Trouth’s Republican Perspective of August 2, 2024, “Heard it on the Grapevine,” brought a smile and roused a giggle. I thank him for that, for these are times that try men’s souls to distraction. Levity, especially from a Republican, is always valued. Trouth’s main point was to trash MSNBC and CNN as entertainment rather than news. He assigns “newsworthy integrity” to Newsmax and OAN.

Dear Editor,Greg Trouth’s letter to the editor on Aug. 7, “Dishonest journalism on display,” provided conclusions about the South Park Outsiders and Tactical Civics. “Certainly,” he said, “the South Park Outsiders have some radical proposals outside of norms…” and “Radical Tactical Civics has no place in Park County…” I thank him for those conclusions. His characterization of the June 7, Republican candidate forum in Fairplay, however, requires comment.
