The biblical command to honour your dad cannot be a licence for dads to be horrible knowing that their christian children have to suck it up and honour them. You are called to honour your dad. But the type of dad your dad is shapes the ways and the extent that you honour him. A father has a wide range of biblical commands as to how he is to live in general, and in particular, how he is to live as a dad. These commands matter to both the father and the child. Some of you have great dads.

Two Well-Meaning but Unhelpful Questions In 2021, my wife Louise and I took a couple of days off and went to Montreal. One day we walked across Mount Royal to visit the St. Joseph’s Oratory. I sat praying for a while, and after prayer, I looked at the large statue that they have at the front, depicting Jesus dying on the cross. The only way to see it, is to look up, which is, of course, the only Christian way of looking at Him and His death upon the cross.

Four Biblical Categories for Theological Triage Several years ago, I was at a conference where Don Carson was speaking, and I asked him if he could name some issues he thought would be problematic for Christians to navigate over the next few years. He simply stated, “The battle will be for the Bible.” He was right. The prevalent worldview on Scripture has shifted from: it’s God’s Book, to it’s one of God’s Books, to it’s a good book, to it’s a corrupt, unjust, and unethical book.
