Cirio Ruiz walks through his farm and relives the moment he was arrested. With a machete in his hand, he was removing the weeds that grow between his coffee plants and the more than 70 species he cultivates. Police vans came looking for him at the property, where you can barely get a phone signal. They intercepted him when he went over to greet them, pulling their guns on him and dragging him into a vehicle. Ruiz was taken into custody on May 26, 2023. He spent 34 days in prison.
