Qantas has raked in over $1 billion in profit, but revenue has fallen due to lower ticket prices over the first half of financial year 2024. The national carrier on Thursday posted an interim profit of $1.25b, a 13 per cent decline on the prior corresponding period.

Coles chief executive Leah Weckert has rejected assertions the major supermarket chain has been price-gouging, claiming instead that suppliers are driving up the price of food. Speaking at an Australian Retailers’ Association event in Sydney on Wednesday, Ms Weckert said the grocer was a “high-volume, low-margin” business and claimed recent price increases were largely due to higher supplier costs.
