Today, Dec. 2, a court in Greenland will decide if anti-whaling activist Paul Watson should be extradited to Japan, or if his detention should again be extended. “If I am sent to Japan, I’m not coming back.” With these words to a reporter for The Guardian last week, Greenpeace pioneer and Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson pondered his future. Since his arrest on July 21, he has been held in a prison in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.

Food security has been a serious concern in New Brunswick for decades. The Covid pandemic heightened those anxieties and prompted many people into action. A 2020 report from the Dalhousie Agri-Food Analytics Lab showed that New Brunswick had the highest number of new gardeners of any region in Canada, 23.7 percent. Food forests in New Brunswick arose partly out of the renewed interest in food security.

This week, Communist Party of Canada leader Elizabeth Rowley visited Fredericton. The party invited the NB Media Co-op to interview her, and we accepted.

Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheàl Martin, has announced that Ireland will formally be joining the government of South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice at The Hague. It’s for only the fourth time since 1948 one country has joined and supported another country’s case at the International Court of Justice.
