So there you have it. Renting a car in Sicily allows you to see so much more in so much less time. It can tie together the seemingly faraway attractions of Palermo, Taormina, Syracuse and Agrigento, but it can also reveal a whole world of Sicily you’d never otherwise see. Driving far from home can be daunting, so many travellers sacrifice freedom for unreliable public transport or expensive hotel transfers. After 17 patient years, the final piece in Brussels’ puzzle has finally been found and put back in its rightful place. The Grand Hotel Astoria is open once more. It is now emblazoned with a glamorous modern title from its latest owner, Corinthia, but retains the immense legacy of the Astoria.

Think Cornwall is a summer-only destination? Think again. Its most famous, perhaps even notorious, tourist town is living proof that off-season is when this place really comes alive. The accepted image of modern Cornwall is binary. During summer it’s England’s finest stretch of coast, understandably overflowing with tourists. For the rest of the year its handsomeness becomes rugged and battered by the elements.

Weirdly generous scheduling that. Fairly gentle start, 2/3 first games at home. Hugely positive to avoid double-headers for Kazakhstan away (travel) and Belgium home (big chance for position-swinging points). At the CCS to finish. Not sure we could’ve asked for better.
