April Jones, known for her boundless ambition and community-minded efforts, is once again spearheading her popular fall clothing giveaway,”Give the Shirt off Your Back.” Building on the success of last year’s events, Jones has organized the giveaway to take place on Nov. 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Nov. 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.Participants can expect more than just free clothing.

The Conewago Valley School District Board of Directors has hired Upper Adams School District’s Superintendent to the position of Assistant Superintendent for a term beginning no later than January 13, 2025 until June 30, 2029. Board members Sauter, Flickinger, Buckley, Meckley, and board president Kindschuh voted in favor of the hire, while board members Swope Getz, and Miller voted no. Board member Krug abstained.

An informal gathering of the Gettysburg College swim team that included a racial slur being cut into a Black student’s body has put the college in the national news. Over the past week, the story, orginally reported by the college newspaper The Gettysburgian on Wednesday Sep. 18, has been shared by dozens of local, state, and national news sources including The Washington Post, NBC News, and The New York Times.

Contacted after Monday’s Planning Commission meeting, Planning Director John Whitmore gave his thoughts about the proposed new zoning plan. Detailed information about the new plan including the proposed new document and map can be found on the borough’s website here. “The development of property within the Borough is planned in accordance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC),” he said.

The Adams County Board of Commissioners announced this week that the county has received the state’s 3rd-largest grant award to provide more families with high-speed broadband service. The funds are part of the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) PA Broadband Infrastructure Program (BIP). Internet service provider Comcast will receive $9.4 million of the proposed $16.9 million project that will provide reliable and affordable high-speed internet to about 2,300 homes.

A former school board member for Conewago Valley School District (CVSD), elected Adams County Democratic Committee member, stay-at-home parent, and member of Gettysburg Presbyterian Church, Beth Farnham has resided in Conewago Township for over 16 years with her husband, Rob, and their two children who attend CVSD schools.

The new Thaddeus Stevens Museum, colloquially known as “Thad’s Place,” held its grand opening yesterday. The museum, located at 46 Chambersburg Street, is sponsored by the Thaddeus Stevens Society. April 4 was Thaddeus Stevens’ 232nd birthday and the 25th anniversary of the Thaddeus Stevens Society. The museum features artifacts from the society’s collection including many of Stevens’ letters. Tom Jolin provided entertainment on the hammered dulcimer.
