On March 1, Iranians went to the polls to elect members for their parliament and the Assembly of Experts. The latter, a pivotal body tasked with selecting Iran’s next Supreme Leader after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, added an extra layer of significance to the electoral process. Of the 290 parliamentary seats up for grabs, 245 were decided in this initial round, with the remaining seats slated for a runoff election in April/May.
