A unique Welsh health policy provided a rare opportunity for researchers. The study, led by researchers at Stanford Medicine and recently published in the journal Nature, strengthened evidence that shingles vaccination may lower dementia risk. In 2013, Wales began a shingles vaccination program that made individuals eligible for the shingles vaccine when they reached age 79. Those who were already 80 or older when the program started were ineligible, though.

High blood pressure is a very common problem, affecting about 47% of adults in the U.S.In 2020, it contributed to more than 670,000 deaths in America. Health care professionals, as the Cleveland Clinic reports, even call it the “silent killer,” as there are often no warning signs or symptoms. A patient could have high blood pressure — also called hypertension — for years without knowing. According to the World Health Organization, about 46% of adults aren’t aware they have the condition.

Many parents expect their children to be fully financially independent after reaching adulthood and leaving home. However, for about half of parents, that’s not the case. For its fourth annual report on parental support for grown children, Savings.com surveyed 1,000 U.S. parents of adult children with an average age of 56 and a median annual income between $50,000 and $74,999. About 50% of participants said they provide regular financial support to their children aged 18 or up.
