Agroecology must lead the way to shaping a new food systemAfter COP27 dedicated a pavilion to food for the first time, food and food systems now will be at the center of the discussions in Dubai, where the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) is about to start. The conference in the United Arab Emirates will run from 30 November to 12 December, 2023.

Representatives of the Slow Wine Coalition, the inclusive, collaborative and international network that brings together the protagonists of the wine world, participated in several events in Spain. The first was the Most Festival in the Spanish Penedès region. Most is an international event, one of the last in Europe, that collects the best audiovisual production related to the culture of the vineyard, wine and cava, bringing it to the screen.

Europeans care deeply about animal welfare. In 2020, 1.4 million EU citizens signed a petition to no longer allow for farm animals to be kept in cages, a campaign that Slow Food actively promoted together with other civil society groups. The call for better animal welfare legislation was supported by the European Parliament and became a “flagship” element of the Farm to Fork strategy.

The Agroecology Week of Action, organized by Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Uganda, served as a platform for like-minded Civil Society Organizations, and individuals to come together and uphold the cause of agroecology. From the National Agroecology Actors Symposium, Agroecology Market Systems Expo, to the Indigenous Food and Seed Fair, the five-day event was a dynamic and comprehensive display of the power and potential of agroecology.
