The European Commission set out a plan to cut off imports of Russian oil and gas by the end of 2027 as it seeks to sever decadeslong energy ties with Moscow more than three years after the invasion of Ukraine. Gas imports from Russia to the European Union have already decreased significantly, from 45% in 2021 to a projected 13% in 2025, while oil imports have shrunk to 3% from 27% at the beginning of 2022.
