There was no winner for King Charles III and Queen Camilla on the opening day of Royal Ascot, but there was for Australian jockey Mark Zahra riding Australian-owned Docklands. The double Melbourne Cup-winning rider triumphed despite losing the whip in the closing stages. Piloting the 14-1 shot Zahra managed to hold off Rosallion in the Group One Queen Anne Stakes as the 5-2 favourite tried to make a late run for the winning post.

The 6-3 6-2 loss followed a first round loss to Briton Sonay Kartal at Queen's Club last week. World No.16 Daria Kasatkina's baseline game was matched by the 49th-ranked Chinese blow for blow and she was beaten in 67 minutes. The Australian No.1's exit was not the only surprise in Germany with Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys also beaten.
