1 Introduction Phosphorus is the major intracellular anion in the body and is of paramount importance for the maintenance of cellular membrane integrity and normal bone and dental matrix, energy stores, metabolic processes, messenger systems, regulation of tissue oxygenation, and urinary buffering capacity.
