1. IntroductionMeasurements are often the basis for decisions and for a measurement result to be useful, it must contain information about possible errors which are relevant and reliable. The relevant information depends on the application. In this article, we will consider measurements of the concentration of a substance (the analyte) in blood or urine and discuss the following situations:1) Measurement of a substance normally occurring in samples (for instance insulin).
