The last day to drop off donations for Goodfellows is Monday, Dec. 16. Denison Goodfellows works in conjunction with West Central Community Action and this year will serve 140 children ages 12 and under from 55 families. Providing help to these children is possible only through the help of volunteers and the kindness of area businesses, individuals, families and organizations that donate food, money, new clothing and toys.

The Denison Goodfellows program is now accepting donations to help needy Crawford County children. Denison Goodfellows works in conjunction with West Central Community Action and this year will serve 140 children from 55 families. Samantha (Bernholtz) Krapfl and Camille Bruck have been friends with a strong bond for 25 years, since they were students at Denison Middle School. This past fall that bond became even greater when Camille donated a kidney to Samantha. The two graduated from Denison High School in 2005 and both moved to the Des Moines area. Samantha, her husband, Brent, and their 12-year-old-son, Kryson, live in West Des Moines. Brent works at Local 347 as an electrician.

Thanks to the support of the Crawford County community, 156 ages 12 and under from families in need can look forward to a merrier Christmas. People shopped for the children, by numbered card, or donated toys and clothes or gave cash donations, which are used to shop for items for the children. The last day to donate was Tuesday, December 19.

Donations to this year’s Goodfellows campaign are coming in, but more are needed to make sure that children from families in need have a merry Christmas. Goodfellows will be helping 156 children ages 12 and younger from 66 families in the county. Here’s how community members can help:• Christmas trees are on display at Bomgaars, Fareway, Hy-Vee and the Crawford County Courthouse. Cards on the trees match the Christmas gift wish lists of children, identified by a number assigned to each family.

The Crawford County Wellness Center project received a $25,000 boost last Tuesday from the Pella Corporation. The donation adds to funds that have climbed to more than 70% of the fundraising goal.
