Nigeria’s education minister Tahir Mamman said on Monday that President Bola Tinubu had approved additional funding for the training and empowering of adolescent girls in the country. Mamman disclosed this while addressing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. A non-governmental organisation, Evolve Charity in partnership with Polaris Bank donated educational materials to over 400 students in Ikeja and Surulere areas of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria. The donation was made as part of the events commemorating the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) International Day of the Girl.

Nigerian human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana has said that the refusal of state governments to make counterpart contributions to the Universal Basic Education Fund in the country was hampering access to basic education in Nigeria. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the take-off of fourteen programmes for the newly established Federal University of Transportation Daura, Katsina State. The pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, confirmed this in an interview in Katsina, on Saturday. The development was the fallout of the recent visit of the NUC resource verification team to the university.

The Nigeria Security and Civil 1Defen1 Corps (NSCDC) Bauchi command said it arrested a 500-level Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) student for stabbing a 17-year-old student to death. NSCDC commandant Ilelaboye Oyejide said this on Sunday while briefing journalists in Bauchi on the incident. Mr Oyejide said the suspect was arrested in Misau local council.
