Four people have been killed in a head-on collision near Yirrkala, in the Northern Territory's remote East Arnhem Land region, on Wednesday morning. In a statement, a Northern Territory Police Force spokesperson said the fatal crash, involving two vehicles, had occurred about 7.15am on Gunyipinya Road.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has seized a record of more than 3 tonnes of illegally fished sea cucumber off the Northern Territory's Arnhem Land. In a statement, the ABF said its officers had boarded a vessel near Croker Island on Wednesday and spoke to the crew of 11 men, before seizing 3.2 tonnes of sea cucumber and 150 kilograms of salt from the vessel. "This is the largest seizure of sea cucumber by the ABF from one fishing vessel," it said.

The Australian Border Force seized 500 kilograms of sea cucumbers and 1,000 kilograms of salt in waters in NT waters over the weekend. It followed the recent launch of Operation Lunar, which aims to crack down on illegal foreign fishing in the region. The acting commander of Operation LUNAR, Tracie Griffin, said the ABF would continue to closely monitor illegal fishing in the NT.

June Marie Bennett, famously know for her role as Shirl in the 1994 Australian film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, has died aged 85. A Broken Hill local, Bennett is being remembered by friends and family as a "vivacious, caring and colourful person" who was a "born performer". Bennett's family said a "celebration of life" service will be held next week, called "Let ME Entertain You", at Bennett's request.

A corrective services officer is the first person in New South Wales to be subjected to electronic monitoring under tough new bail laws for people charged with serious domestic violence offences. The 45-year-old man, who worked at a prison in western NSW, faced a local court on Friday relating to five charges of sexual intercourse without consent and one charge of aggravated sexual assault. All incidents were alleged to be acts of domestic violence.

A new Broken Hill mining agreement looks set to secure the city's historic mining industry for the next five decades. Pinnacles Mine, which sits 15 kilometres south-west of Broken Hill, has entered what some are calling a "game changing" agreement with Broken Hill Mines Limited (BHM). The mine is believed to hold 6 million tonnes of high-grade silver, zinc and lead, with the potential for other large deposits nearby contributing another 15 million tonnes.
