Recently, running from 29th November to 5th December, was the Premier League’s annual Rainbow Laces campaign, intended to show the league’s support for LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality. Stats are from FBRef unless stated otherwise. Trent Alexander-Arnold is nothing if not a risk-taker. I’ve never seen a right back used as aggressively as him. Every choice is about attacking. To play Trent1 in your team is to attempt to outscore the opponent from right back. It feels like every pass is a progressive one, attempting to get the ball into dangerous areas rather than keep it safe. Positionally, we know how much he’ll get forward and potentially leave his side exposed for it.

Hi everyone, Grace here. I’m really sorry the newsletter didn’t come out last week. I’ve been taking some ADHD medication for the first time, and things went very badly when I upped my dose, along with chaos as I moved in the exact same period. It shouldn’t have happened, but things just got on top of me along with a nasty anxiety spike, so I’m sorry. I know a lot of you live in the US, and there was some very, very bad news coming out of there.

INEOS are keen to change things behind the scenes, restructuring the club and laying off staff members. They might be too frugal and uncaring of people’s livelihoods, but that does tend to be what you get when business people come in overhauling a football team. There’s a lot happening. On the pitch, however, it’s as frustrating as it was last season.

So the FA really have done it and got not just a big name but someone who, at least in my head, could fit the job particularly well. I don’t know how much they thought about this. We’ve heard that Pep Guardiola was their first choice but, well, he’d probably be first choice for just about every job in football management. It’s not happening. Perhaps, like the United States, they gave Jürgen Klopp a phone call before getting politely turned down.
