Following Kiss, Jepsen made her Broadway debut, starring in Rodgers And Hammerstein’s Cinderella, where she bonded with costar Fran Drescher over the experience of having one relatively early high watermark overshadow one’s entire career. The Nanny was Drescher’s “Call Me Maybe.” The show and the single were career-defining hits for Jepsen and Drescher respectively — and pretty damn great ones at that.

About two months ago, the Midwest’s most beloved DIY music festival got into some unexpected and extremely stupid legal trouble. Conor Alan, member of the emo band American Spirits and co-founder of Summit Shack, a live music collective and former house venue, received a cease-and-desist from the good people at AEG Presents, the purveyors of—among many other live events, the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival.

On their long-awaited reunion record, Mclusky don’t assume the role of serious elder statesmen of punk—and thank God for that. They’ve sidestepped the indignity that often comes with gettin’ the band back together, mostly because Mclusky understand better than anyone that dignity is overrated. On the world is still here and so are we, there’s no grandstanding, no illusion of self-respect, no demand to be taken seriously, because none of that was ever Mclusky’s goal to begin with.
