Ximena Arias Cristobal was arrested by Dalton police after she turned right on red where there is a posted "No Right on Red" sign Monday morning. "You never expect her to be in jail. It's just like, bam, it hits you, because your sister is talking to you through a phone in jail, and you're over here free doing whatever you want," said her sister, Aurora Arias.

Hamilton County Schools have been facing budget challenges for the upcoming fiscal year. Last week, Commissioner David Sharpe recommended a referendum, that would most likely be put on the November 2026 ballot, for citizens to vote on whether or not they want a sales tax increase that would go towards school facility maintenance.
The school board is a little more than a week away from a scheduled vote on the upcoming 2025-26 school year budget.

East Ridge police say at 4:35pm Monday, the suspects drove up to the Parkridge East Hospital in a black Dodge Durango, dressed all in black, and shot at a person in the parking lot. "Apparently exited a newer model Dodge Durango, started firing at the party in the parking lot, and then they left the scene rather rapidly,” said East Ridge Police Chief Clint Uselton. The victim was not hurt, but the building was hit with gunfire. "There's no injuries to anybody in the hospital.

Despite extensive preparations ahead of the weekend storms, Chattanooga’s Public Works Department says the Hixson area was hit hard by rainfall. According to Public Information Officer Errol Williams, city crews cleaned out debris from approximately 250 flood-prone locations ahead of the storm. That included clearing leaves, tree limbs, and other obstructions. “We do that prior to a system moving in,” said Williams.

The Department of Government Efficiency, better known as DOGE, terminated funding for more than 1,000 AmeriCorps Programs nationwide. Public Education Foundation President Dan Challener says this includes the local public education foundation teacher residency program, Project Inspire. Challener says the news came Monday afternoon with no specific reason why.

Hamilton County Commissioners say they will approve a resolution next week accepting a donation for the Hamilton County Veteran's Treatment Court. The program officially started in January, and $2,200 serves a special purpose for people who complete the program. The program, primarily volunteer-driven, will purchase 300 challenge coins thanks to contributions from Walden Security, Ronnie Barnes, and Steve Holmes. “These coins are very near and dear to veterans.
