C.M. Russell, Great Falls High basketball standouts earn all-conference honors

Seven Electric City hoops players were named to the All-Eastern AA team for the 2024-25 season. C.M. Russell High’s Dean Blair, a first-team All-Stater last season, was named second-team all-league after averaging over 13 points per game and seven rebounds and two steals. Rustler teammate Ben Cunningham (8.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg) was honorable mention, as was Great Falls High’s Blake Carver, who led the Bison at just under 9 points per game.

The University of Montana men’s basketball team is going dancing as it takes on Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday. The Grizzlies won the Big Sky Conference tournament to punch their ticket to March Madness with a 91-83 victory over Northern Colorado last week, and the team was selected as a 14-seed.

It all comes down to this. The C.M. Russell High boys’ basketball team and the Great Falls High girls face state tournament play-in games Thursday, both on the road in Billings. The Rustlers (8-6 conference, 12-7 overall) are the No. 5 seed out of the Eastern AA and face No. 4 Billings Senior at 6 p.m., while the No. 6 Bison (5-9, 7-12) take on No. 3 Billings Skyview at the same time.
