Congratulations to last week’s winners of the polls, Dain McMann and Scarlet Harris of Great Falls High track and Field. Each week during competition, two girls and two boys will be nominated, with the audience choosing the winner via poll, which are both posted below.

If you’ve missed out on the opportunity to float in Montana’s Smith River State Park this year, you’re not the only one. The Smith River offers a unique floating experience as it stretches 59 miles of beautiful scenery through the Little Belt Mountains and is renowned for its fishing. Floaters can spend up to four nights on and along the river at designated camp sites from the launch point at Camp Baker north of White Sulphur Springs to the takeout point at Eden Bridge near Ulm.

C.M. Russell High jumper Ava McCarthy will be staying in the Electric City for college track, signing with the University of Providence officially this week. McCarthy is a two-time state meet-qualifier in the high jump, finishing ninth as a sophomore in 2023 and was the Eastern AA champion in the event that season. McCarthy is ranked in the top five for high jumpers in program history, CMR head track coach Brian Greenwell said.

The Great Falls Optimist Club Women’s Track Meet is set for Friday as all Class AA programs in Montana will assemble at Memorial Stadium for what could be the best measuring stick of the season ahead of the state meet. The competition among the top girls’ athletes in the AA is sure to be fierce as the field events commence at 11:15 a.m., while action on the track begins at noon.
