The move by the city to put a pedestrian bridge on hold comes after the work to build it turned out to be more complicated than originally thought. The City of Guelph first announced Dec. 21 it would be pausing the Ward-to-Downtown pedestrian bridge project, with a news release citing “unanticipated complexities.” In an email to the Mercury Tribune, Gene Matthews, the city’s general manager for parks, said the problem came down to the bridge’s proximity to another property.

A growing number of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph's younger residents are trying vaping, Public Health says. Every high school the public health unit inspected in 2023 reported issues around teens vaping on school property, says a report for the health unit's Dec. 6 board meeting. The number of complaints, referrals and requests this year about tobacco and vaping is more than the last five years put together, the health unit says.
