Our staff evaluates the individual performances of players from throughout the season, talking to folks around college ultimate, watching film, and look at statistics, voting upon the awards to decide those to be honored. The regular season and the college Series are both considered, with extra emphasis for performances in the competitive and high-stakes environment at Nationals.

A LIFE-CHANGING attack on a serving police officer by a feral gang of youths was described as something out of a “dystopian genre horror movie” by a judge. The drunken mob of four punched, kicked and hit Stuart Rochead with glass bottles and bludgeoned him with rocks and stones before leaving him for dead. Gang leader Laura Nearly - 17 at the time of the attack - tried to murder the off-duty cop by dropping a giant rock on his head.

A SIDEKICK of Jamie ‘Iceman’ Stevenson has avoided extra jail time because his latest sentence will expire before his release date for his role in the drugs kingpin’s gang. Paul Bowes, 53, was today given 18 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court after he admitted to a number of fraud charges. But Sheriff Matthew Jackson KC noted it would have no impact because Bowes won’t be back on the streets until at least October 2017 due to a six year stretch handed down at the High Court in Glasgow.

But he’s now awaiting sentencing for a series of scams on stricken companied. Photos of Bowes, 53, from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, can be published for the first time after he pled guilty to carrying out the frauds before he joined Stevenson’s mob.

While we consider both regular season and postseason performance, because of the nature of the Club division, we weight success in the Series and at Nationals above all else. This year, with an uneven regular season, the postseason emphasis is perhaps greater than ever. The Club Awards are voted on by Ultiworld reporters, contributors, and editors. Our Breakout Player of the Year may be the hardest-to-define award that we dole out each year.
