Hundreds of NHS bosses are pocketing more than £100,000 a year despite failing to bring down waiting lists, a report reveals today. Amid record sums being poured in by taxpayers, nearly 1,700 fat cat NHS bureaucrats were handed the bumper sum in pay, pensions, bonuses, expenses and payoffs. Meanwhile, 512 senior managers banked salaries greater than the Prime Minister’s (£172,153) - with nearly 300 on £200,000 or more.

Football fans should be given a dedicated area to celebrate their team’s sporting success in a bid to prevent city centre disorder, Scotland’s top police officer has said. Chief Constable Jo Farrell said 320 officers were deployed after thousands of Celtic supporters descended on Glasgow’s Merchant City and Trongate on Saturday. A total of 20 people have been arrested after Celtic fans celebrated their team lifting the Premiership trophy, following a 1-1 draw with St Mirren.

Police officers need to stop ‘wasting their time’ probing social media posts and get back on the streets to deter crime, a senior officer said yesterday. Rob Hay, president of the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents (ASPS), said it was not the job of police to intervene when people were offended by posts on X and other platforms. He said unless a crime was suspected officers should be ‘nowhere near’ social media and must get back into the community to prevent and fight crime.
