Sundays are for doing all the errands and prep you won't have time for in the week because it's half-term. But we can also sneak in some downtime for reading and watching fine video games writing. Criticism is cruelty, writes game developer Oma Keeling. This isn't an argument against criticism, but a plea for a more honest embrace of why we write and enjoy writing critically.

Listlessly re-watching YouTube videos and refreshing BlueSky then feeling bad that I'm wasting my time rather than playing the games I want to play or reading the books I want to read? Probably. At least this way I stumble across some articles worth reading.

Published on May 14, 2025 Hideo Kojima is his own Peter Molydeux, in that he's forever out there pitching Kojima-like ideas for games he might make. Hideo Jokima? On a recent episode of his Japanese radio show, KOJI10, the designer of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding pitched a few ideas he had for games based around time. The best of the bunch: a game in which your character gradually forgets information if players take too long a break from playing.

This very post, for example, began as a little notice of the release of The Midnight Walk, before I realised Edwin had already done that. Now it's instead about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, an RPG which Nic definitely described in his review as "operatically, hauntingly, and slightly unhingedly French".
