(Dakota News Now) - On Friday, Governor Larry Rhoden and three other governors sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency asking for it to encourage more renewable fuel production. The state leaders are looking for standards of 15 billion gallons for conventional ethanol and 5.25 billion gallons for biomass-based diesel.

PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - On Thursday, South Dakota’s Public Utilities Commission met to decide whether to extend the schedule for Summit Cabon Solutions’ permit or to deny the permit altogether. Summit’s attorney Brett Koenecke couldn’t give a definitive answer as to how the company plans to operate under its currently submitted permit with House Bill 1052 going into effect in July.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - With the 2025 legislative session in the rearview mirror, lawmakers, citizens, and lobbyists have had time to reflect on a session that saw a lot of new faces. One South Dakota organization created its own scorecard. Family Voice Action has been releasing scorecards since 2015. The scorecard listed a variety of bills that the organization supported and whether or not a lawmaker supported that bill affected their grade.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Dakotans for Health recently announced that it has filed a lawsuit against the Secretary of State regarding a recently signed bill that affects the ballot initiative process. The filing of this lawsuit comes just two weeks after House Bill 1184 was passed. House Bill 1184 moves the deadline to file a ballot measure ahead by three months. Currently, South Dakotans have until May of an election year to do so but this would bring that deadline back to February.
