On Tuesday morning, the outlet Punchbowl News broke the story that the world’s largest online retailer and second-largest retailer overall would be putting “tariff costs” on its pricing pages, right next to the original costs of each product. The visuals of the tariff pricing would effectively be making them taxes on what customers were paying for what they ordered, which is what most economists consider tariffs to be.

It’s been 20 days since President Donald Trump announced it was “Liberation Day.”He promised steep tariffs on nearly every trading partner worldwide, and administration officials, like economic advisor Peter Navarro, promised 90 deals in 90 days. Of those 90, only two have shown any promise. Vice President JD Vance announced a road map to negotiations for a deal with India, which is like saying someone has the beginnings of an idea for a plan.
