(AP) — Jason Day and Lydia Ko shot 31 on the back nine in the tougher foursomes format Saturday, giving them a 6-under 66 for a two-shot lead in the Grant Thornton Invitational, the first mixed-team event since 1999. More than posting five birdies on the back nine at Tiburon, Day and Ko managed to avoid mistakes that held so many other teams back. They were at 20-under 144, two clear of Lucas Glover and Leona Maguire (69) and Tony Finau and Nelly Korda (70).

(AP) — Tony Finau and Nelly Korda surged into the lead with an eagle-birdie finish Friday to post a 16-under 56 in the scramble format and take a one-shot lead in the Grant Thornton Invitational. The first mixed-team event with the PGA Tour and LPGA was a day filled with plenty of laughs and birdies galore in the scramble format, where both players hit tee shots, pick the best shot and both play from the same spot. “It was fantastic,” Finau said.

In the first round of the inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational on Friday, paired with world No. 1 Lilia Vu (Dahmen) and Rose Zhang (Theegala), already an LPGA Tour winner at age 20, they were also star-struck fans. “I've never played with a No. 1 player in the world,” Theegala said after he and Zhang shot 14-under 58 in the (scramble format) first round, two off the lead.

The 2023 season was one of growth for Baylor University alum Gurleen Kaur. Starting on the Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT) in early April, Kaur played her way into No. 3 in the Race to Stage II. She also finished second at the FCA Women’s Championship in May to earn a few sponsor exemptions later in the Epson Tour season.
