Grace Fellowship Church is looking for a new location after 17 years at Outlet Center Drive. The move comes after property owners terminated a five-year-lease only three and a half years in, said Pastor Jack Shoup. Shoup has been pastor at Grace Fellowship since 2001, and has been a minister since 1994. “They gave us four months,” said Shoup. “We have six to seven weeks left currently.

A drafted paid parental leave policy was shown to magistrates of the Scott County Fiscal Court at their June 7 meeting by Scott County Human Resources Director Jeff Mudrak. The plan would provide benefits for employees on parental leave. “Provisions of this policy would be to provide two weeks of time off, or up to ten days of paid parental leave for the birth of a child of an employee or placement of a child with an employee for adoption,” said Mudrak.

For its second year, Georgetown Fire Department (GFD) is hosting a Youth Summer Academy. Georgetown Fire Department Youth Summer Academy is geared to teach high school students and graduating seniors on the basics of firefighting, said GFD Battalion Chief Jeremy Mullins. Classes are July 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and 30. Academy registration wraps up Thursday June 13. “The overview is to educate our youth to know what we do on a day to day basis,” said Mullins.

Ticket sale proceeds from the Saturday, June 1 Lexington Legends game were collected to support the family of nine-year-old Easton “Eazy” Watkins. Over $500 were raised, said Legends Community Relations Coordinator Alex Smith. Watkins is a Scott County youth baseball player who sustained serious injuries in a February car crash. Watkins threw the first pitch of the night at the Legends game before teams took the field, Smith said.

World War II veteran, Cecil Hill, 99, was honored this Thursday at the Pavilion by members of the community and Georgetown/Scott County Parks and Recreation (GSCPR). Hill served in the Pacific Theater of WWII in the United States Army. “Today (Thursday) is going to be the 80th anniversary of D-Day,” said GSCPR Interim-Director Chip Southworth. “This gentleman (Hill) comes in every day, five days a week to do his walking and exercise.
