HIGH POINT – Rockers hitting coach George Greer worked with Evan Edwards during the day on Thursday and the tips paid off when gametime came afterwards, according to club manager Jamie Keefe. Edwards, the former Southern Guilford and N.C. State standout, socked a pair of homers that drove in three runs as High Point downed Gastonia 6-3 in a rain-interrupted ending to a three-game midweek series that ended a six-game home stand at Truist Point.

TRINITY — Jumping higher than ever, outfielder Gage Griffiths secured a victory for Trinity in the first round of the NCHSAA 2A baseball playoffs Tuesday. With two outs in the top of the seventh and a Mount Pleasant runner on base, Griffiths snagged a ball near the top of the centerfield fence for a game-ending catch, preventing the visiting Tigers from scoring at least the tying run as the Bulldogs, who led by as many as six runs, escaped with a 6-5 win.

HIGH POINT — The Rockers open the season with a six-game road trip that begins tonight at Southern Maryland.
