Juneteenth — June 19th, also known as Emancipation Day — is one of the commemorations of people seizing their freedom in the United States. Celebrate. But We Can’t Teach? This beautiful tradition of Black freedom should be taught in school. Yet, if the right wing has its way, it will be illegal to teach students about Juneteenth. At least 44 states have passed or proposed legislation to prohibit teaching about structural racism.

Let’s refresh the color black in our eyes by pointing out its beauty. Most ink is the color black. Foremost, the Qur’an is most often written with black ink as well as its translations. The Qur’an is the spoken word of the Lord and He Willed that black be the most common color ink for His Divine revelation. The calligraphic name of Allah ﷻ, Muhammad ﷺ, and the rashidun caliphs (Allah be pleased with them) are also most commonly written in black.

The Quran contains some fascinating numerical patterns. For example, ‘Paradise’ and ‘Hell’ are each repeated 77 times, ‘angels’ and ‘devils’ 88 times, ‘world’ and ‘Hereafter’ 115 times, ‘prayers’ (ṣalawāt) 5 times (the exact number of daily prayers), ‘punishment’ 117 times, whereas ‘forgiveness’ is repeated double that number, 234 times.
