(Century Media)Man, opener “Warhead” hammers home the point I kinda forgot: The Haunted are the Slayer of today, the song riding the straight line to thrash perfection, manic solo hinting at melody, vocals sharp and ready, barbed-wire hooks all over the place.

(Relapse)New York (by way of Nepal) grind band Chepang have been off my radar until now, but, luckily, Relapse has changed that with Jhyappa, the band’s fourth full-length. (Divebomb)Oh man, I never say no to a Confessor reissue, even when I’ve probably reviewed the damn thing before, but there’s just never enough praise I can spill on this band. (Transcending Obscurity)Debut full-length here from Port Coquitlam, BC’s Crown Of Madness, coming at us from the extremely quality Transcending Obscurity Records way over in India. It took me a little bit to get my footing on this one, which I like: opener “Visions From A Past Life” felt sort of gothic black, which made me start losing interest pretty fast, but then “Sovereign Blood” lays down a blasting, sideways stumble through the Gorgutsian catacombs, and I’m all on board.
