A first-inning run Tuesday was all the scoring the Roxana Shells could muster in what ended with an eight-inning loss to the Columbia Eagles at Roxana Park. On Wednesday, the Shells got a quick Cahokia Conference baseball rematch and used runs in the first and second inning to beat the Eagles 2-1 at Eagleview Elementary School in Columbia. Roxana is 12-3-1 and 3-1 in the Cahokia. Columbia is 5-7 and 2-2 in the league.

The Civic Memorial Eagles and Jersey Panthers both celebrated dramatic victories in Mississippi Valley Conference softball play Wednesday. CM used a three-run sixth inning to defeat Triad in Troy, while Jersey scored a run in the sixth to tie and another run in the seventh to defeat Highland in Jerseyville. Article continues below this adCivic Memorial 4, Triad 2 – Coming off a 9-5 win at Jerseyville on Monday, the Eagles moved to 2-0 in the Valley by beating the Knights in Troy. CM is 8-4.

CARROLLTON - The No. 1 ranked and unbeaten Carrollton Hawks spent five days trailing the Pleasant Hill Wild Wolves by three runs. When play resumed Tuesday from Thursday's WIVC softball game halted by rain after three innings, the Hawks needed just about 20 minutes to turn that 120-hour deficit into a lead. Carrollton struck for runs in the fourth - the opening inning of the resumption - and tacked on three runs in the sixth to beat the Wolves 8-4 at Wright Park.
