For a decade of my life, I had the privilege of leading a church that was deeply committed to reaching the lost. By God’s grace—and through prayer, hard work, and a relentless Gospel focus—we experienced steady growth as new believers came to Christ and joined the church every week. Since then, for more than 30 years, I’ve led a ministry called Dare 2 Share, which trains youth leaders to equip teenagers around the world to share the Gospel with their peers.

Esteemed Welsh preacher Martyn Lloyd-Jones once offered a bold test for true gospel preaching: If it isn’t mistaken as a license to sin, then it isn’t the gospel at all.

That’s right. I’m convinced that Jesus would be fired after a few months if he were hired on staff at a typical church today. Years ago I wrote a book titled Firing Jesus. Its premise was this:What if Jesus were hired as a youth leader by a run-of-the-mill church? Set in an emergency elders meeting, Firing Jesus grapples with how to manage a 30-year-old youth leader named J.C. Davidson (Son of David), who was rocking the boat with his radical ministry approach.

Wondering how to handle youth group drama at church? Then keep reading for helpful, Bible-based insights from veteran youth leader Greg Stier. I hear it more and more as I talk to youth leaders across America. Many struggle with dreaded youth group drama. A hyper-sensitive clique of girls is mad at an insensitive clique of sarcastic boys. (Or vice versa or mix-n-match.) Kids take sides. They hurl hurtful words. They hurt feelings. I saw this happen at my own kids’ Christian school.

Last weekend I was on a hike with my wife at Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park in Arizona. There, we learned about the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots—the heroic firefighters who died on June 30, 2013, while fighting the fast-moving Yarnell Hill Fire. As we hiked the five-mile trail, we soon noticed the metal plaques showcasing each brave hotshot—a next-level firefighter brought into the worst conditions—embedded into large boulders every few hundred yards.

I am so encouraged by all of the updates I am hearing from pastors around the country. Every pastor I am hearing from is reporting highest attendance ever, record salvations/baptisms, and TONS of involvement from the next generation. The Lord is doing something!

When every anyone dies we must comfort the mourning and gently take the opportunity to point people to the eternal hope only found in faith alone in Christ alone based on his finished work on the cross alone.
