    A team led by Korean Air has been named the preferred bidder to upgrade 36 Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters in service with South Korea’s military. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration programme is valued at W992 billion ($695 million) and will cover 36 helicopters. Source: Korean AirKAL-ASD has long experience with the UH-60 KAL-ASD notes that that the UH-60 is used by both air force and army special forces units.

    Jakarta’s open interest in the Turkish Aerospace (TAI) Kaan fighter further muddies Indonesia’s already murky plans for new fighters. In a recent visit to Turkey, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a cooperation agreement on defence matters. Source: Antara news agency Subianto reportedly expressed interest in participating in the Kaan programme as well as in the development of submarines.

Effective 31 March, Patrick Peng became the managing director and senior vice president sales & marketing, commercial aviation for Embraer China, says the Brazilian airframer. Peng has held a number of China-based roles at Safran, Thales, and GE Aerospace.

    A ‘conflict point’ stemming from operational changes led to the fatal collision of two Airbus Helicopters EC130B4s on 2 January 2024 at Gold Coast, Australia. According to the Australia Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the key factor in the accident was the use of two helipads simultaneously, which created a conflict point. As the helicopters were conducting short scenic flights, the frequency of takeoffs and landings was high.
