    Maruja’s new EP Tir Na Nóg is about twenty minutes long, and that’s fine, as the old cliche goes: “quality over quantity is the best.” The album’s four tracks, titled “Aon,” “Dó,” “Trí,” and “Ceathair,” which are the numbers one through four in the Celtic language. The EP seems purposefully open ended, to allow the listener to find their own cathartic “promised land” in the decidedly spiritual offering.

    “It’s simple rocket science,” The Moles’ Richard Davies, who has been championed by the likes of fellow rock n roll minimalist Robert Pollard, sings off his new collection of indie simple songs called Composition Book. His stuff is genius, like Lou Reed, who he name drops in one of the songs off of this album, with the distillation of emotions (“and I know how it feels”) and the sublimation of made-at-home indie rock fuzz and whir with a decidedly poppy make-up.

    From the first measure of NYC outfit Kassie Krut’s debut album, you get the crunchy industrial sense that this band is indebted to their influences. As it turns out, listening to the EP, their influences are wide and varied. Whether it’s the dub, grime, or garage that they grew up with in London, or the Brainiac feel of “Hooh Beat,” or the industrial pop of Sleigh Bells on many of the songs.
