Alberta is one step closer to opening the province’s online gambling market to private operators. Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, Dale Nally, tabled legislation Wednesday that would create a new Crown Corporation, the Alberta iGaming Corporation, to oversee the new market and put the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Corporation in charge of regulation. Nally introduced Bill 48, known as the iGaming Alberta Act, to the legislature, delivering the first reading of the new bill.

Super Bowl LIX is just days away, and the Toronto-based Responsible Gambling Council has released some interesting data regarding the wagering plans of Ontarians on the Big Game. An online survey of 1,147 Ontario residents aged 18 or older reveals that 63% of those surveyed plan on watching Super Bowl LIX and 48% plan to place a wager on the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.

Gamblers in Ontario wagered approximately $22.7 billion, and the online gambling market produced $825.8 million in total gaming revenue — from iCasino, online sports betting, and online poker — from Oct. 1, 2024-Dec. 31, 2024, according to iGaming Ontario’s 2024-25 Q3 market report released on Wednesday.
