The Western Colorado University track and field teams put the finishing touches on a split-squad weekend on April 12. The Mountaineers finished off two-day meets at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden and West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. The majority of the Mountaineer men’s and women’s team participated in Mines’ annual Kit Mayer Classic, while a group of sprinters competed at the Jo Meaker Classic in Texas.

Western Colorado University’s outdoor track and field teams finished off opening day of the Maverick Invite on April 3 with a number of career-best marks. Logan Butterfield and Anthony Avila placed second and third in the men’s hammer throw, and each recorded personal records in the event. Butterfield’s fourth toss soared 56.36 meters, and Avila’s fifth attempt traveled 49 meters to earn top-three finishes.

Western Colorado University’s Dean Noble earned an All-American honor at the 2025 NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships on March 15. The fifth-year grappler also placed fourth in the 149-lbs bracket to earn national honors his second year in a row. Noble squared off against Cael Larson from Augustana University in the semifinals on Saturday. Larson registered the only takedown of the match in the second period to earn a 4-3 decision. Noble shifted to the consolation bracket.

Western Colorado University track and field, and swim and dive athletes brought back school records and All-American awards from the 2025 NCAA Division II Winter Championships Festival that ran from March 11-15 in Indianapolis. Morgan Nielsen made a successful appearance at the Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium. The sophomore set personal bests in all four of her events while also breaking three Western records.

The No. 13 Western Colorado University wrestling team will host the NCAA Division II Super Region VI Championships on Saturday, March 1, with national tournament qualification on the line. Western will take on 11 other programs at the Mountaineer Field House, including five who sit within the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) top-25 rankings.
