Major League Baseball is often difficult to predict. Every year there are teams that expect to contend and never come close to reaching the post-season. Then there are teams that were supposed to be bad and somehow end up being good. Clubs that win the off-season aren’t guaranteed a thing. Ditto for the so-called losers. But there are also plenty of times when the results go according to the script.

The Blue Jays are toiling through one of their lowest points of the season and the outlook in the American League East might be about to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. After dropping a series to the lowly Los Angeles Angels, the Jays have been penalized with a matchup against the Seattle Mariners. The Blue Jays possess one of Major League Baseball’s more effective bullpens and the only way that trend will continue is if that group starts getting some help from the offence. Blue Jays quick hits: Angels rally in ninth inning to hand Hoffman first blown save with TorontoJeff Hoffman, Yimi Garcia and Brendon Little have been lights out for most of the year, but a pair of late-inning collapses this week against the Los Angeles Angels served as a cold reminder they won’t always be perfect.

There will be a familiar face on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels this week and it just so happens to be the pitcher the Blue Jays never wanted to part ways with in the first place. Old friend Yusei Kikuchi will get the ball on Wednesday night in a matchup against his former team. It will be the first time the veteran left-hander has faced the Jays since they dealt him to the Houston Astros at last year’s deadline.
