The Court of Appeal has delivered its judgment in the Emotional Perception case, allowing the appeal, and holding that artificial neural networks (ANNs) are computers like any other. They can therefore fall within the "computer program" exclusion from patentable subject matter unless the invention makes a “technical contribution”, which the patentee failed to show in this case.
