Saturday’s slate of games served as the final installment of SEC softball play during the 2025 season. Following those contests came the reveal of the bracket for this year’s edition of the SEC Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday, May 6 at Turner Softball Stadium in Athens, Georgia. South Carolina was among the teams that learned their postseason fates at the conclusion of the weekend’s action.

Midweek contests have given the South Carolina softball team opportunities to get itself into rhythm before taking on SEC opponents during the weekend. The Gamecocks have performed well in these games, too. Heading into this week, they had accumulated a 5-2 record in midweek contests this season, with losses to Coastal Carolina on March 12 and Clemson on April 15 as the lone blemishes keeping them from a perfect mark.

South Carolina found itself in a unique situation heading into its series finale against Kentucky. Win game three, and the Gamecocks would clinch its second series win in as many weeks for the first time since their schedule transitioned to SEC play. Momentum appeared to be on South Carolina’s side, based on play from the night before.

A busy three days for former Gamecocks at the 2025 NFL Draft saw five South Carolina football products selected. Torricelli Simpkins III was not selected, but it didn’t take long for him to earn an NFL opportunity, too. Simpkins will sign an undrafted free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints. Simpkins posted the news on his Instagram and it was also confirmed by Nola.com.
